Advert was made in 1950s specifically 1955.
2) How were women represented in most adverts in the 1950s?
Majority of the adverts during the 1950s, presented as housewives and others who stayed at home doing jobs such as cleaning, laundry. They were made to have makeup on while doing work creating a beauty standard towards women. It made expectations and must be seen good looking.
3) How does the heading message ('OMO makes whites bright') and the style of the text promote the product?
The message promotes their product to be the best cleaning product on the market and the text used has a newsflash style which uses verbal code which is eye catching.
4) Analyse the mise-en-scene in the advert (CLAMPS): how is costume, make-up and placement of the model used to suggest women's role in society?
Makeup is used on the women creating a beauty standard that even when doing house work daily we need to look good. The use of props in the advert such as a cleaning line and clothes shows the domestic duties in a household. The placement of the women with clothes on her shoulder imitates how cleaning should be done showing her duty.
5) Why is a picture of the product added to the bottom right of the advert?
It is a pack-shot which is non verbal symbol. It shows how it should be recognisable and showing how the full product looks like.

The connotations of using this colour scheme is related to the colours of the Union Jack showing how its a British item. It would be seen as a patriotic item of he UK.

' Millions of women ' is a persuasive technique called band wagoning. It shows how everyone should use and purchase the product.

In the OMO advert, it shows how she fulfils her duties as a women and a housewife. She is represented with a smile showing her excitement towards cleaning as a housewife.

The preferred reading of this advert is that it is an amazing cleaning product and has a slogan to show this. It also means that women should do the duties and that it would help her with doing so.
10) What is the oppositional reading for this advert?
Audience of this advert may think that the advert is targeted to women and that they should do all the housework and could not please modern audience now as well.
