Part 1: Skittles Advert Analysis
1) What key conventions of print adverts can you find and what are the connotations or deeper meanings of each convention?
Picture: The image shows the variety of colours and the different options skittles provides. Each colour presents colours of the rainbow or could be each colour a unique flavours. Skittles is different to other sweets brand due to the uniqueness of their packaging, flavours and texture.
Setting & Colour scheme: Skittles uses a range of colours and shows possibly colours of the rainbow which also represents the variety of flavours the brand has. Rainbow symbolises the happiness which could show how their sweets create happiness when eaten. However in the modern day this can also symbolise the support to LGBTQ suggesting that their sweets are for anyone and everyone.
Logo: Skittles has a bold name and is written largely on their products. It makes the packaging more known and people more aware of this.
Slogan: Their slogan is '' taste the rainbow '' suggesting the different variety of flavours Skittles caters.
2) What is the USP (unique selling point) for Skittles and how do you know? Does the advert use any of persuasive techniques listed above?
The USP of Skittles is organising all their flavours in a colour of the rainbow. It's a fun creative idea skittles uses which attracts anyone specifically kids who enjoy different flavours and sweets.
