 TV Industry Context:

1) What is the BBC's mission statement?

It is to inform, educate and entertain. 

2) How is the BBC funded?

It is funded through the government with our TV licenses that we pay.

3) What must the BBC do to meet its public service broadcasting responsibilities?

BBC must provide information, support learning for people of all ages, produce creative output, have diverse content, reflect the culture

4) Who is the regulator for TV and Radio in the UK?

OFCOM is the regulator for TV and Radio in the UK. 

5) How is TV and Radio regulated by Ofcom? 

It oversees all media channels and produces a code of conduct that all media channels must follow and if not followed it can result to be being fined. 

6) How do Doctor Who and His Dark Materials help the BBC to meet the BBC's remit to inform, educate and entertain?

Doctor Who and His Dark Materials both meet BBC's mission statement.  Doctor Who meets the educational segment due to how factual it is and how much information it contains with science and historical factors. Doctor Who also is a way to inform the audience about the past and the characters often reinforce the stereotypes such as the Doctor having more knowledge or Barbara not being listened to since women were seen as less and misogyny was a big factor at the time. It also entertains audience specifically people who enjoy sci-fi and time travel experiences. His Dark Materials also meets all the parts of the mission statement since it is entertaining with the use of different worlds which attracts the audience. It is also educational and is used to inform such as sections where it subverts stereotypes of women which we didn't often see.
