 End of Year 1 Exam Learner Response:

1) WWW: Good detail and knowledge across the longer questions.                                                                    EBI: Consider more media terminology such as codes to analyse.                                                                  Grade: 7

2)  Setting: Citigaze with empty houses, Actor Movement: Lyra and Will running. 

3) Narrative features: 

Todorov: The empty city creates a sense of disequilibrium – that something has gone wrong and needs to be repaired or at least understood by the characters. Music and sound effects are used during the chase scene to create pace, drama and excitement.

4) Question 2, 20 Marker: 

• Traditionally, Doctor was a white male reflecting and reinforcing traditional gender roles of the times, with the man as powerful and in control and the woman as helper. Women’s helper role often been to provide an emotional, empathetic side. Reinforcing the idea that men are active, action-centred while women are more emotional and sensitive.
• In the 1960s, representations were largely of British, white-middle class people. Over time, TV drama has developed to be more inclusive and to show a much wider range of representations. In His Dark Materials, there are people of different ethnicities and backgrounds.

5) Overall, I need to work on using Media terminology and theories to strengthen ideas. However I am happy that I have ended with a grade 7 and jumped grades.
