Demographics and Psychographics
1) What information do media companies use to create a demographic profile of their audience?
Media companies use demographic profiles they use are age, race/ ethnicity, future job/ profession, location, and social class. This helps companies decide what they are aiming for.
2) Why are media companies and advertisers increasingly using audience profiling and not just demographics?
Media companies don't just use demographics because it is more objective rather than subjective. It assumes that everyone is in the same category. have same opinions.
3) What are the seven different Psychographic groups?
The aspirer, The reformer, The explorer, The mainstream, The succeeder, The struggler, The resigned.
4) Write a brief summary of what each Psychographic group is seeking or motivated by.
The Aspirer: The people are materialistic and are constantly being perceived by others as superficial. They are aware about their image, persona and charisma.
The Reformer: Complete opposite of aspirer. They anti-materialistic. They care about their own judgement but are socially aware.
The Explorer: They always face challenges and enjoy seeking new things. Often first to try out new ideas.
The Mainstream: They are mainstream of society and constantly respond to established brands.
The Succeeder: Possess self-confidence and tend to be very organised and have strong focus. They seek reward and prestige.
The Struggler: Known for being victims, losers, wasters and have zero aims. They are opposite of succeeders and are not organised.
The Resigned: In their life, they aim to be basic and have survival, they respect institutions enjoy traditional roles.
5) What psychographic group or groups do YOU belong in? Think about your own interests and lifestyle and explain your decision.
I think I belong in the aspirer because I enjoy spending money on materialistic items. However I also belong in the succeeder because I am very organised and tend to focus on important things.
